Maybe it's just because the guys behind E3 have changed the nature of the event, but all of the major console developer conferences were very dull this year. Sony's was probably the strongest videogame conference, however.

While we mostly were treated to footage of multiplatform games we already have seen for the PS3 and Xbox 360, the opening footage of Resistance 2 with a gigantic boss creature was absolutely fantastic, and the announcement of another Ratchet & Clank (This time downloadable from PlayStation Network) and Resistance PSP were also exciting.

The "gloating about sales" section was surprisingly un-modest for the least successful console of the moment, but it was nice and colourful using LittleBigPlanet to show the results rather than graphs.

Boring, but probably more satisfying than the other two.

I don't think I'll be watching next year's E3 conferences.

Do you remember your father trying to be 'hip' when you were a kid? Remember how embarassing that was? Microsoft's E3 conference this year was very similiar. Nintendo are the cool uncle who seems to have been able to get in with the kids, and Microsoft is the Dad who says "dude man that is rockin" in an awkward voice, attempting to do the same.

Aside from the awesome announcement of Final Fantasy 13 for the system, and Banjo Kazooie coming to Xbox Live Arcade, nothing really stood out here. With about half an hour's worth of footage from the games we want to see (A very grey Fallout 3, and an even greyer Gears of War 2 looking a lot like Gears of War 1, Fable having families and dogs, and Resident Evil 5 including a seen-it-before 1 player co-op feature) and an hour and a half of embarassing Dad moments. Oh look! Scene It 2! An eyetoy ripoff! Creepy Miis! A new menu which looks like the Wii menu (which was oh so good, wasn't it? ) Guitar Hero/Rock Band 234350893! Karaoke!

Bloody awful! What a waste. Roll on Nintendo and Sony...

Best moment: Fat woman dances in front of eyetoy... I mean... Xbox Live Vision camera, the feller says "Give it up for her!", followed by absolutely no applause whatsoever.

That show is coming again. Where we get to see everything Microsoft has already told us, listen to Sony apologising and watch Nintendo reveal more things we don't care about. However, this year we have some big things to look forward to. Fable 2 and Banjo-Kazooie are just the tip of the Microsoft Iceberg(TM), Nintendo have promised "core" games and Sony, er.... Well, two out of three ain't bad.

Myself and Dr. Andy will be attempting to "cover" E3 (as in yammer about some of the things which appeared when we can be bothered to) for you guys in this here blog, so stay tuned.

In the mean time, the site will take on a bit of a gaming theme for a short while, check out the beginning of the chaos with my painful return to Sonic '06.
